Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection?
First, find the last good -rc kernel and the first bad -rc kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$
** Summary changed:
- Lightdm is just a black screen when booting kernel 5.3.0-17-generic on an
i5-6500, but "nomodeset" or booting kernel 5.0.0 fixes it
+ Lightdm is just a black screen when booting kernel 5.3 on an i5-6500, but
kernels 5.0/5.2 work
