today I update kernel-5.3.0-43 to use software-updater.
I use firefox and I browsing COVID-19 site,
then gui hung up, only mouse can move.
I power Off/On PC, send log to use apport-collect 1860196.
Today I use geforce 8600GTI PC, and I use firefox for browing.
then mouse could not click operation, but could move it.
I send log to use apport-collect 1860196.

I experienced same situation another PC having GT218(Geforce 210).
I use linux-5.3.0-28.
then I update NVIDIA driver to use software-updater
that is recommened nvidia-340(340.107), may work fine.
Do ubuntu-18.04 recomened to use NVIDIA-driver?

I install nvidia-340 driver to /dev/sda1 ubuntu-18.04.3 partition.
to check lsmod command, nouveau not found.
I update kernel-5.3.0-26 to use software-updater, gui work fine.
nouveau may have something wrong.

You use nouveau, but have set the boot option nomodeset. So it is your
fault.
Bionic with kernel 5.3.0-26 and nouveau work fine.
