Hello Dave,
Have you tried to re-install the NVIDIA proprietary driver with 5.4 kernel?
I saw you were using it with 5.3 but not with 5.4, maybe that's the cause.

with 5.3.0-62.56~18.04.1-generic (from CurrentDmesg.txt), can you collect it
again with 5.4 kernel?
