Hi again,
I was able to narrow the problem down. I noticed that indeed a new
kernel version has been installed today causing the problem. Output of
dpkg.log:
cat /var/log/dpkg.log | grep "^2022-01-.*\ installed\ .*linux-image-generic"
2022-01-05 09:35:21 status installed linux-image-generic-hwe-2
