In that case this sounds like a bug in Xorg/Nvidia/Mutter, but not the
kernel because the Intel GPU is not being used.
Please connect the monitor and then run:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
and attach the resulting text file here.

It looks like the Intel GPU exists but is disabled. And that both the
laptop screen and the external monitor are wired to the Nvidia GPU...
unless you have more than one external monitor attached?

Usually external monitor ports are wired to the discrete GPU. So that
would make it an Nvidia problem, not an Intel kernel problem...
