As noted above, original hardware is long gone.
Issue was with a 12 x 500GB PATA RAID5 array on Ubuntu 32bit
Relevant hardware on box is completely different today
Now using 3 x 2TB SATA drives on Ubuntu 64bit
No issues like this present on current setup.

Ynot, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .
