DJBacon, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
Adding the acpi_backlight=vendor kernel parameter allows my system (Dell
Vostro 3750) to boot with different USB devices connected to the USB 3.0 ports.

Here's a photo of the console output of the boot with the latest 3.11
rc5 mainline kernel, with boot options quiet splash and vt_handoff
removed and debug=vc added.

I have encountered this bug on a Dell Inspiron N7110, but only if i have
anything plugged into one of my USB 3.0 ports.
I've got kernel 3.9.4 running, but it hasn't been fixed.
The system boots into recovery.
