After reading this thread I installed 4.4.0-40.60.

Sorry, no I don't recall.
I do however have a second machine running xenial rather than yakkety
that I'm yet to test. So that might help...
Unfortunately I've also changed machines between it last working and
now. So this might be a USB hardware fault but I struggle to see how

I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:
52770c37db2c0ee5585dae2de3d19c8453f1e8dc
The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1627108
Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on

Issue recreates on today's kernel: 4.8.0-17-generic.. Please let us know when

Suspend/Standby worked fine previously under i386 packages, but after
cross-migrating to amd64, system just hangs and i have to do a hard
power off (hold power button for 5 seconds).

I confirmed it works as expected :

[Ubuntu16.10]KV4.8: kernel livepatch config options are not set
We had installed the mainline kernel on two machines and tested it again.
The issue still remains. One of the two machines get slow, lost the drdb
connection en begin to hang.
The other machine works fine (just like before).

Confirmed that Yakkety main kernel boots and logs into the desktop.

Thanks for the offer Joseph! I have read your answer a bit late, so I am
already on my 9th kernel (all good so far). The docs were quite good and
I have wanted to try out "that bisect thing" for quite a while :)
(It's just a bit annoying that it takes about half an hour to compile on
a i5-6500
