Not sure why I couldn't reproduce it on my amd64, but this does not fail
after I stop systemd-timesyncd. Well, you managed to find it on GKE,
which is not ppc64el, so good enough.
stime and settimeofday should not be fiddling with hwclock, only system
time. Maybe we should stop systemd-timesync

I've built a kernel for Bionic with the commit 9adebac37e7d ("qede: Handle
infinite driver spinning for Tx timestamp.") in order to validate if such patch
fixes or at least alleviate the symptom.
It's built on the following PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~gpiccoli/+archive/ubuntu/test1855409
We had similar behavior on GCE by running Elasticsearch through the following
suite of unit tests:
https://github.com/elastic/rally-eventdata-track
The test suite takes about 5 days to run fully and any corruption can be found
by running:
zgrep CorruptIndexException

Hello,
this is a bit too much to ask from me.
Sorry,
I wait for a new kernel and then hope the problem will be gone.

@vivkar, in response to your last question, you should have kernel
4.15.0-70-generic already available to boot from, since an update
wouldn't have replaced the old kernel version. Make sure it's not
available by going to /boot/ folder on your machine and looking for any
files named
Verified on disco with the following test case:
$ uname -r
5.0.0-38-generic
$ echo 64 | sudo tee /sys/class/net/ens1f0/device/sriov_numvfs && virsh
attach-interface iov hostdev :08:02.6 --managed --live
64
Interface attached successfully
