To get the _philosophy_ behind the Linux kernel / or any operating
system you must read one of the x86 architecture books. Or any
other architecture you are interested in.
My pick for x86. These are also available in

Thanks for looking through; I found a simple solution for now:
http://lwn.net/Articles/229677/ seemed small enough that could be
installed in the 2.6.18 kernel.
