I create a different schematic symbol for each value of component and
size. For example, 10K_1%_0402. It's always been faster to create
more values by editing the lib file with cut/paste in a text editor.

I have run into problems under the latest version of Kicad. For
starters, the latest version installs under Program
files/KiCad/share/library. Vista unfortunately does not want mere
users to mess with files under Program files, so I have to run my text
editor as an Administrator.

The big problem I am running into is that edits using the text editor
no longer seem to make any change to the part Kicad is using. I first
text edited my resistor library to create a new thermistor. It showed
up in the Library editor where I added to the graphics. However, the
graphic changes do not appear in subsequent text edits. And changes
in the text editor do not appear in the Library editor. Is KiCad
caching this somewhere? Is there some way to synch these up?
Previous versions did not do this. In case it matters, I always close
one program before starting the other (Kicad, text editor).

Doug
