I do not know if this is a version issue (5.0.8 vs 5.1.0) or a package issue

OK, so it is of the XML backend which I have also used. The other option would

This issue ended up being related to a transaction 'payee' that came in from
GnuCash. GnuCash puts the description as the Payee, and the drop down combobox,
decides its length based on the max length of the possible payees

It doesn't make much sense to me that it would be a straight % of
ownership. For example, two people can have a joint bank account.
One month one owner can spend 50% of the expenses or bring in 50% of the
income, to the account. Another month, one owner could spend 90% of the
expenses.

Well, if you let the bank decide what to send and they send you everything,
then KMyMoney can't do anything about it. It just fulfills yours and the banks
decision.
