Hello again, I have more info. Just now, when canceling transfers as described below, I saw that the fields for "home library" and "holding library" were slightly different. One says "Cary" and the other says "CARY". I should mention that only the books that I checked in that have the lower case

Hi Amy, another thought would be that there is something off with your homebranches and holdingbranches - could you check the homebranch and holdingbranch of your items? Maybe best would be to check with an SQL report, so the pull downs in cataloguing can't hide any extra characters or empty field
