I use advanced search all the time to limit to items that are not checked out
or in a specific audience or content. I usually only use one search field.
Also, it is a pain with the more/fewer options. There really isn't that much

You can set the expandedSearchOption system preference to show and
it will default to the more options view.

our collections are things like Broadsides, Genealogical Materials,

I usually use it to limit by item type or location, like if I need to
search for Reference books. I don't usually use the multiple search boxes
for some reason.
