Thank you to those who replied to my posting.
After applied Eric's suggested solution, I'm pleased to advise that the CPU
utilization has returned to normal range (around 20%). Yes, Googlebot has
been trolling our catalogue in recent days.

Your OPAC doesn't seem to have a robots.txt file.
In that case, webcraler can do multiple requests per seconds, which can
be hard on your site performance.
Here the robots.txt we are using :
User-agent: *
Disallow:/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl
Disallow:/cgi-bin/koha/opac-export.pl

You would need to see what it actually is that's causing your high CPU.
Just adding some JS wouldn't do it.
