We had lots of great discussions and got quite a bit done. One of the things we accomplished was we defined the network's points of unity, which I'm posting here. We had some really good discussions in coming up with these points of unity, and we were able to come up with these points that brought together people with very different ideologies and perspectives, but who all want to work to stop what the U.S. is doing in Colombia. Everyone felt very strongly that we don't want to exclude anyone based on whether or not they support the guerrillas in Colombia--we want to unite everyone who is against U.S. military aid to make as big and as powerful of an anti-war movement as possible. We encourage everyone who basically agrees with the following points of unity to join together with the CAN to stop U.S. military aid to Colombia! ---Brad, MN Anti-War Committee ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Points of Unity of the COLOMBIA ACTION NETWORK (CAN) 1. We oppose U.S. intervention in Colombia. 2. We uphold the right to self-determination of the Colombian people as they struggle for social and economic justice. 3. We oppose fumigation: the chemical or biological methods of crop eradication. 4. We denounce the systematic utilization of paramilitary forces by the U.S.-backed Colombian state and call for their dismantling. 5.
