Another sad Bendix 3000 story among many over the years. Those double
mags must have seemed like a good idea at the time but they've sure been
a source of trouble over the years.

for the 4316's and cost next to nothing com

Hey Sam, I would not recommend to use a "dual electronic ignition system"
to replace the magneto which doesn't depend on your battery power The
so called "dual ignition" is not exactly a redundant ignition system due to
the following fact: (1) it very much depends on availability of
uninterrupt
If you go with a totally electronic ignition, one broken wire orconnection
could shut you down. Also, no low battery hand starts.Slick 4220 surplus
magnetos are around $100 on Ebay.

I went through this same situation with my plane a while back.
I replaced the Slick mag, a non-rebuildable model, with the SDS system, and did
so for the same reasons, i.e. new tech, similar price point. I had a lot of
difficulty getting the wiring done correctly to allow me to perform
