HI Dave, i have a change to purchase a set of wings but the old foil, been
told theres very little difference. Hard to believe but why make a new one? Is
there really a noticeable divergence in cruse and stall?
should i hold out for a better foil?
thanks very much

Per Taylorcraft.org, the Taylorcraft used a NACA 23012 airfoil. Also used on
the Beech Bonanza. I haven't looked it up to verify, but isn't that the same
airfoil used on Roy Marsh's KR now owned by John Bouyea? John will know.

Speaking of that wonderful airfoil. I have a nice set of raf-48 wings for
sale. For a limited time only, you can buy one wing and get the other for
FREE for only $2,000.00. contact me offline or go to ad on Barnstormers.

Mike,
Not correcting your theory or practice of low-drag flying, just the
Spitfire airfoil part. Spitfires had a NACA 2213 airfoil at the root,
tapering to 9% (2209) near the tip and washed out to keep the elliptical
planform from stalling all at once across the span.

With all that being said, Dan Diehl once told me that he would build another
KR2 and change the angle of attack of the RAF airfoil by 2 degrees, so the
speed of the plane would not make it “Plow” through the air. And increase
airspeed by the loss of drag.

Jeff said,
"While many seem to poo-poo the RAF-48 airfoil, mostly for it's unknown
data points, it is a gentle airfoil with plenty of warning for stalls."
That's certainly been my experience. Maybe it's just an OWT but I read
or heard many years ago that it's the same airfoil as the Spitfire.
Just passing this along, I'm on the mailing list and this is a great
advocate organization for keeping small airfields.

Caution! Before you pay for the print; make sure it is accurate in both X
axis & Y axis. Printers are seldom accurate. You should accurately
measure the airfoil in both axis. By changing the scale at least one axis
can be made to be correct. I would draw the airfoil from the airfoil
coordinates

I was looking in the archives for a link to an electronic version of the full
size RAF 48 templates to take to a printer. I can find the AS5046 on Mark's
page but not the RAF 48 . Does anybody know where I can find those?
Thanks

I have been searching for templates for the ribs used in the RAF 48 Diehl wing
skins and don't seem to be having any luck. I see the ones for the AS5046 but
cannot find the others.
Can anybody point me to those? I also saw a link on Craig's Sea Fury page to a
pdf for the Diehl wing skin install
Does anybody have a digital version of the RAF 48 that I can take to Kinkos to
have them printed up? ie the right size to cut templates.
