I am using a Zenith from Great Plains on my 2180 VW. The carb is mounted directly behind the Diehl adapter case. If you have a magneto at that location, then mounting the carb there will not work to well. I used the intake manifold kit from Great Plains, but opened the Y section to raise the

Since I have put in an air/fuel ratio gauge I have noticed very wide changes in the air/fuel ratio at different throttle settings and with small changes in the amount of carb heat used. If I adjust the mixture for a perfect 14.7/1 ratio at about 75% power it will stay there, but increasing the

Brian, You can expect the richer mixture when adding carb heat, and you would expect to have to lean the engine when you add carb heat. Yours sounds a little excessive, indicating a problem somewhere else. You should not experience large changes in mixture just by changing the throttle setting.

Finally got my Zenith carb adjusted on my 2180 VW to consistently and reliably idle at 700 RPM. I found that the torsion spring between the butterfly shaft and the throttle arm was not strong enough to return the shaft to the full closed position. I added another extra tension spring from the

Years ago I took my Grumman TR2 to get it's annual inspection. The carburetor was rebuilt and I flew it about an hour when the throttle arm came unhooked in flight. If the carburetor had been spring loaded to go to idle, It would have been a very bad thing. However, the carburetor was spr

I have a spring on the Zenith throttle shaft that will pull WOT if the throttle cable breaks. That WOT spring was keeping the butterfly slightly open and not closing fully at idle. Verified operation by loosening the Bug Nut for the Bowden cable on the carb throttle arm: The throttle goes to W

After 4 flights I made a new bracket to mount the Bowden cable throttle installation for the Zenith carb. I removed the throttle lever mounted on the left side in the cockpit to install a push knob control on the instrument panel. Logic for the lever quadrant and the push knob are reversed.
