Joel,
If you were flying & being signed off in a certified aircraft you would be
required to perform 3 full stop landings performing correct 3 point landings
that you currently do, and 3 full stop wheel landings. Then you would also be
required to perform 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop within each 90 day
period in a tailwheel aircraft in order to carry passengers. If at night you
are required to perform 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop regardless of
type to carry passengers. I would encourage all to follow these minimum
guidelines for safety sake even not required for experimental certificated
aircraft. Joel the 3 pointers are great for light wind conditions, but I would
still stay proficient at wheel landings also. They are almost mandatory when
dealing with any decent cross wind situation to afford the extra control
necessary to safely land.
All of these discussions in my mind are not to tell anyone that what
they are doing is wrong but to encourage all pilots, but especially the low
time pilots to exercise procedures that build in extra safety margins against
problems. Whenever we fly close to these margins we take away from us alot of
our ability to compensate for situations and reduce our alternatives. As we
gain experience we can then push this envelope and fly closer to those margins.
        FLY SAFE! All......
