There you have it.  Slack cables, cables with no slack and no springs, and no slack cables with springs. Three opinions from three well informed an experienced builders / fliers and all three are different.  Truth is any / all three will work with maybe different handling characteristics.  Pick the one you like and go fly it.

Not picking on anyone in particular but if you're convinced you need slack in the cables so you don't head to the weeds on tail touchdown in a crosswind, why do we not have the same problem with a direct steer nose wheel when it touches down with crosswind correction?  This whole discussion would be best discussed around a campfire with cold long necks to help spirit the conversation.
