I am also using an rt 8180 card.
I have a similar problem with kwifimanager and knetworkmanager.
And kwlan also does not work for me.
For wlassistant to work it requires network-manager.

More feedback from Hobbsee, the progress dialog now stays open for atleast 1
second.
That way it doesn't just "flash" at the user when it finishes quickly.
Now most users manage to read what the dialog says before it finishes.

sudo doesn't pass on the X authority values needed to run software-
properties-kde. Using kdesu should fix this issue, but I agree it would
be nice for sudo to work too.

Knetworkmanager refuses to work with my two wifi cards. I got a rtl8180 and a
netgear wg511v2, both cards are detectet by kneworkmanager: essids are visible.
A connection is still not possible. With my rtl8180-card, knetworkmanager
My Deskjet F340 was detected and installed with the HP utility, the
first time it has ever worked in Ubuntu. Even the scanner works, so the
package works great.
