I have activated the HTTP method and set the http_proxy as well as the PROXY
env variable to http://host:port. No authentication is necessary.
With the same setting I can connect to MSN using Pidgin, but kopete reports:

Public bug reported:
it seems that amarok (or one of its dependencies) is missing one
dependency:
amarokapp: /usr/lib/libcurl-gnutls.so.4: version `CURL_GNUTLS_4' not
found (required by /usr/lib/libtunepimp.so.5)
And when I ask for the package libcurl4-gnutls:
$ LANG=en sudo apt-get install
I saw the same problem in Ubuntu Feisty, KDevelop 3.4.0. I fixed it by
installing kdesvn-kio-plugins. KDevelop started checking out from the
repository, but then...nothing. I saw no error messages, and the project
ended up not being created. At that point, I figured it was best not to

amarok will work again if you downgrade libtunepimp5 to 0.5.2-1ubuntu3,
libcurl3-gnutls to 7.16.2-6ubuntu2, and libcurl4-gnutls to
7.16.2-6ubuntu2.

I get the same bug,
I don't think this is an amarok bug though-
I get this bug in other apps as well (picard for instance.) I think its
either a bug in libcurl3-gnutls, libcurl4-gnutls or in libtumepimp5. Apt
also complains about broken dependencies between libcurl3-gnutls and
libcurl4-gnutls.
I am quite interested in this concept, as I often use my laptop on AC
power. From experience, battery deterioration does occur more quickly
when you run a laptop on AC power, so it only makes sense that adjusting
the thresholds could only help us out on battery life.

When I try the same gutsy alpha 2 CD in my other laptop, a Dell Inspiron
6400 with built in ethernet, it *does* connect on login. So this
problem appears confined to my old Sony Vaio with the PCMCIA ethernet
card.

Actually, I take that back. While it did connect initially, it doesn't
always connect or disconnect when I remove the ethernet cable.
