gutsy. I can confirm all the same symptoms as Aicardi. NVidia graphics
card with Compiz enabled. It does it on regular local tracks and

The original behavior of this Bug has been fixed but I cannot start

ACPID was set to Not start at boot. Changed that and now power
management starts, but it still does not give any information about the
notebook battery. It assumes the battery is not present. The attached
screen capture shows the Power Manager window with all "Battery Powered"
functions disabled.
The problem still exists in fglrx 8.3. But killing atieventsd before
logoff or shutdown, or disabling it from /etc/rcX.d/ folders solves it.
