I have upgraded to (Kubuntu) Intrepid, and have seen a number of
application crashes in the few hours I have been using it but no Apport
yet. Do I need to enable this somehow?

Ubuntu Intrepid with all upgrades, kile 2.0.1
If "static word wrap" is enabled and the document has long lines, the
spellchecking results in producing lots of empty lines instead of just
splitting the long lines.
This bug may be somehow related to

Afraid not - I've tried adding and removing all the widgets, but my
problem is that some of them take up more space than they need to - a
slightly dodgy illustration would be that the system tray is this big
|--|
but it takes up this much space on the panel
