I can confirm this bug. Using Dell Latitude E6400 with 5300AGN.
But there is a second Problem, which maybe can help us to understand, why
"automatically connect" does not work.
If i configure a new 5ghz connection, the networkmanager connects fast&fine. If
i reboot and try to use this connection
I consistently get a crash shortly after closing Kile in Kubuntu Jaunty,
unless I shut down before it happens, in which case Kile starts up again

Possibly, but I did not have the issue on a 32 bit test system. I will
try to go through Karmic soon to either confirm or dispel the issue
there.
