If I remember correctly KDM was calling a long-gone X process (something
that was running before the system was rebooted.) KDM was returning a
meaningless error text because it could not talk to the long-gone
process. Xinit had the same problem but returned a more helpful error
message. I was hopin
* I'm guessing the version of Kubuntu was 9.04 back in November.
* Sorry I can't remember what version of the kernel or of the X-Server
was - but it was whatever was shipping in the Backports PPA at that
time.
* In case it helps, the uname string from my main workstation is
currently Linux 2.6.31
I have just experienced this bug on Kubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 beta 1
(daily 2010-03-27) amd64, The bug appeared as soon as KDE loaded after a
reboot.
Interestingly, I had installed a printer during the previous session.
That is the action which triggered this bug's original report.

In numerous (mostly unexplained) occasions, applications i.e. "System
configuration" and "Kpackagekit" dissapear from the "Workstation" tab of
KDE's application launcher.

2) Add the following to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld and
