I have my home folder encrypted by using the standard prompt upon
installing the OS.
I experience an error occasionally in which returning from suspend
causes an error. get it on a black screen upon returning from suspend
and it says something about an error and encryption.
That version is now dead

I'm not going to let a postinst script mess with files in a user's home
dir.
Maybe a better solution would be for latte-dock itself to clear it's qml
cache when it detects it is being run for the first time after a version
upgrade. However, that is an upstream issue for the KDE developer.

Installing Kate (on ubuntu 17.10, wayland) works fine. However, there's
a dependency that's going to cause difficulties, as follows:
kate -> plasma-framework -> libkf5notifications5 -> phonon4qt5 ->
phonon4qt5-backend-vlc -> libvlccore8
So Kate now indirectly depends on a V
