The "host not found" problem is resolved within kubuntu-default-settings now.
The problem is just that the actual default kdeprintrc file sets cups as
default print manager, but does not configure it correctly.

I added that new default value since the original default (defined to [ctrl]+)
couldn't and wasn't working.
I can confirm it doesn't work... Sounds strange cause I tested, but that's it...
I just replaced that first value by the old secondary, [alt]+left/right.
Tested and that works.

There is no known way to resolves this since the only workaround is a hack
upstream doesn't want to perform.
This only appears with certain version of xorg (maybe ubuntu's package is
responsible for this).
Decision has been taken to make usage of kmplayer has konqueror's embedded
player for dapp
This has been resolved about 2 weeks ago with latest OO 2.0.2 packages.

the problem is that depending the laguage, the main toolbar gets very large.
With french for example, it doesn't fit on the screen with 1280*1024 resolution.
By the way, you get the icon's function while putting focus on it, and even new
users are used to that way to work (same on about all OSes)

I have tested deeply, and there is no easy way to switch between those two
possibilities except with patching x-{zip|tar}.desktop files...
So we have to make a choice, and as I explained the actual kubuntu aim of a
coherent and logic desktop is the priority.
