xresprobe should never be executed from within X and it does respect the driver
it is asked to use. I am not sure what this kde.guidance do but i fail to see
this as an xresprobe bug.

Ati 3D Rage II Pro ends to black display
X exports a standard API towards both Kubuntu and Ubuntu. Given that this works
on Ubuntu, i can only assume something in Kubuntu is flaky.

Rocco's comment in just wrong. I did check the code for that and the xcustom
check he is talking about it's used only manually.
What I am saying is this bug doesn't exists any more or it has been fixed in
