I think kdesu should get focus on screen and darken the background like
gksudo does in ubuntu. It's a great feature to gain visibility of an
important event (asking for root priviledges).

gnome's UI to sudo has a nice feature which is to remember the password
introduced for 15 minutes or so, like sudo does on the command line.
Kde's kdesu doesn't have this behaviour and it's a bit annoying having
to enter the same password when doing system administration.
The point I'm trying to make is that I think it would be better if this
package used by default xine engine without forcing to install the
gstreamer packages. That way a default kubuntu install will have fewer
redundant packages (gstreamer and xine give similar functionality.)

The new driver deals better with the problem. Now, there's some screen
flickering and then the usplash screen appears. It's not very smooth,
but much better as now I can see what's happening while
rebooting/halting the pc.

Thanks for the comments, but last time I tried I couldn't download the file
with a right click action from kde-look. The file I'm saving is a Download.php
file, mainly because the kde-look server just redirects to another server where
the file really is stored.

Found some info:
If I load grub's console on boot, I can access (hd0,4)/grub/splashimages/FILE
I thought this was the problem, an incorrect path to the file, but after
changing it and rebooted there's still no grub splashimage.
I think this is a bug between grub and LVM.
