couldn't manage to configure any of my network printers, I couldn't
manage to delete the printers I tried to set up, I couldn't set up A4 as

@Martin,
Can't we add a filter before redirecting to the error file? Instead of:
exec $ERRFILE 21
we could have
exec | /usr/bin/fifo 2048 $ERRFILE 21
fifo is a simple program (a script or even C program) that reads from
stdin and writes to an output file while the file size is under a limit
This still happens in Feisty with a different network and a different
wireless card. The most annoying is that sometimes NM gives up and asks
for the password, so if I am not in front of the computer, all
connections (and downloads) are stopped indefinitely.

What's very curious about this is you can get some weird behavior.
Open up a movie in totem, then turn your system volume to 0. You'll
still hear sound. But, strangely, that sound will then get quieter
when you lower the totem volume, even though in theory everything
should be muted.

No because alternatives and kde default components are different.
Alternatives are system-wide, they require sudo (root privileges). Kde
default components are per-user, they don't require any privileges.
In my opinion, the best ideal solution would be that alternatives could

I don't think this is a problem in package mozilla-thunderbird.
It might be better to assign it to kde-guidance, kcontrol or even the package
that contains update-alternatives (I don't know which one it is).

Does the new new upstream release 2.0.7 handle the new name correctly?
If so, I think that it can be backported to edgy. Someone would have to
package it first, it shouldn't be very hard if you look at the current

Paul, no one is asking you to switch to gnome. However, knowing what
works and what doesn't work helps to triage the bug. I think it is all

Thanks for your comment. The changes you are requesting require more
