In Kubuntu 10.10, even by live CD, you can load up the kdenetwork
package and a new area will become available under System Settings -
Sharing.
In two of my systems upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 to 11.10 and also via
Kubuntu live CD of 11.10 (a fresh download on this date),
I get the same warning message:
ksysguard: WARNING: Failed to create avahi client
