I am a plain simple KUbuntu user, just like many others.
I use KUbuntu, not KDE alone nor Debian.

Just killing and restarting kwin_x11 is enough for me.
But, I'd like to troubleshoot and head to a fix, more than workarounds, though.
Doesn't anyone here know how to debug this nasty issue?

2. The problem seems to be tied to the notifications (but I cannot be sure)

It cannot access a file because of a locale problem and instead says the size

It's really a shame! After 5 years all we have is a trivial workaround that
could have been even implemented into the package itself!
I'm pretty sure this has been introduced by Kubuntu not by the KDE team. And,
as it happens more and more often, there's more attention on the theme colors

As of today, the HAL / automount feature is not working again.
CDROMs, DVDROMs, USB memory and memory cards don't trigger the usual friendly
pop up dialog asking for actions (playing, opening/mounting etc.).

I would say that the "fixes" Guillaume suggets should be actually called bug
workarounds.
The default AdBlock definition file loaded into konqueror had both the bang
lines and the "[Adblock Plus" header.

First.
The problem seems to arise actually from the interaction between
KNetworkManager (front end) and the NetworkManager
(back end).
The CPU goes 100% when KNetworkManager is not running or has been

I've found that the actual "bug" is in /etc/ppp/peers/kppp-options.
Infact it shows a line saying:
#noauth
thus requiring all peers to authenticate. Usually provider ask you to
authenticate but don't answer to authentication requests.

I confirm all the above by Raoul. I did a fresh new Dapper flight 6 (Kubuntu)
installation.
If you see Raoul's report, you can see that almost everything get replicated
twice in the kdesud activation. The correct one should be the one using the
~/.kd
