no, my problem occured using krandrtray (no virtualization/emulation or
something like that) as I described in bug #272774, but somebody marked that
bug as a duplicate of this one.
Maybe it's the best to make these two bug seperate again.

problems with autofit under vmw
I've tried resizing using kandrtray. Sometimes it works, sometimes not:
1280x800 > 1024x768 works
1024x768 > 640x480 works
640x480 > 1024x768 doesn't work
800x600 > 640x480 crash! I have to log in again
