I'm using Amarok to play my music, and very nice it is too  until it encounters 
some m4a files. I bought these files through iTunes on my Mac, though I'm not 
sure if that's relevant.
What happens is that initially the files play OK but after about 10 minutes or 
so the sound becomes distorted (it sounds like a ring modualtor effect). It 
always happens with this particular album after 2 tracks, no matter where I 
start. I don't have any other albums in this format to try.
Quitting and restarting Amarok clears the problem for another 2 tracks.
I haven't noticed the same behaviour when playing mp3 files
I switched to phonon-backend-mplayer and two things happened: (1) The sound 
corruption goes away (2) The sound quality generally improves overall. So I'm 
happy with mplayer thanks, but I thought I'd log this seeing as I found it. 
What were you thinking giving us KDE fans a gnome-based audio engine? ;-)
