I've had an oops when running kvm-18 on my dual core intel laptop. This happened when I was installing Debian Etch with a net-install, the crash happened when it was working to download and install packages from the network. I've used a tap device bridged to my ethernet device.
The oops follows, let me know if you need anything else: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 448b0c48 printing eip: f8fc648a *pde = 00000000 Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP Modules linked in: tun kvm_intel kvm binfmt_misc cpufreq_userspace cpufreq_power save speedstep_centrino xt_state ipt_TCPMSS xt_tcpudp iptable_nat nf_nat nf_conn track_ipv4 nf_conntrack nfnetlink iptable_filter ip_tables x_tables button ac ba ttery bridge ipv6 llc dm_crypt dm_snapshot dm_mirror dm_mod backlight ide_generi c rt61 arc4 ecb blkcipher rc80211_simple pcmcia snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec rt61 pci 80211 rt2x00debug firmware_class sdhci mmc_core psmouse snd_pcm snd_timer sn d soundcore i2c_piix4 eeprom_93cx6 crc_itu_t snd_page_alloc serio_raw yenta_sock et rsrc_nonstatic pcmcia_core pcspkr i2c_core ati_agp agpgart shpchp pci_hotplug mousedev tsdev evdev eth1394 ext3 jbd mbcache ide_cd cdrom ide_disk usbhid 8139 nf_conntrack nfnetlink iptable_filter ip_tables x_tables button ac battery bridge ipv6 llc dm_crypt dm_snapshot dm_mirror dm_mod backlight ide_generic rt61 arc4 ecb blkc ipher rc80211_simple pcmcia snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec rt61pci 80211 rt2x00debug firmware_class sdhci mmc_core psmouse snd_pcm snd_timer snd soundcore i2c_piix4 eeprom_9 3cx6 crc_itu_t snd_page_alloc serio_raw yenta_socket rsrc_nonstatic pcmcia_core pcspkr i2c_core ati_agp agpgart shpchp pci_hotplug mousedev tsdev evdev eth1394 ext3 jbd m bcache ide_cd cdrom ide_disk usbhid 8139cp atiixp ohci1394 ieee1394 8139too mii generic ide_core ehci_hcd ohci_hcd usbcore thermal processor fan vga16fb vgastate CPU: 1 EIP: 0060:[<f8fc648a>] Not tainted VLI EFLAGS: 00010283 (2.6.20-rc6 #19) EIP is at mmu_page_remove_parent_pte+0xa/0xc1 [kvm] eax: ca6b4464 ebx: 9cbd8bff ecx: c7c80000 edx: 448b0c24 esi: 448b0c24 edi: c7c80000 ebp: ca6b4464 esp: d9f41ba4 ds: 007b es: 007b ss: 0068 Process kvm (pid: 18786, ti=d9f40000 task=e52f8a70 task.ti=d9f40000) Stack: 9cbd8bff c7c80000 ca6b4a60 ca6b4464 f8fc695d 0000203f ca6b6fb8 00000fff 00000000 00000000 c11962e0 0000203f 00000000 00000001 f8fc36d4 00000001 ca6b4464 0203ffff 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 f8fd09a0 f8fd09a0 Call Trace: [<f8fc695d>] kvm_mmu_pre_write+0x14a/0x18b [kvm] [<f8fc36d4>] emulator_write_emulated+0xb0/0x166 [kvm] [<f8fcb2a6>] x86_emulate_memop+0x23a3/0x303d [kvm] [<f8fc6b00>] gpa_to_hpa+0x34/0xa1 [kvm] [<f8fc76c8>] paging32_walk_addr+0x67/0x25b [kvm] [<f8fc6b21>] gpa_to_hpa+0x55/0xa1 [kvm] [<c015aaf4>] free_block+0xaa/0xf4 [<c015aaf3>] free_block+0xa9/0xf4 [<f8fc51a9>] emulate_instruction+0xc6/0x23a [kvm] [<c012613d>] run_timer_softirq+0x36/0x15b [<f8f7ec85>] handle_exception+0x119/0x1ca [kvm_intel] [<f8f7eada>] kvm_vmx_return+0x143/0x1d5 [kvm_intel] [<c015482c>] remove_vm_area+0x2c/0x48 [<c0154888>] __vunmap+0x40/0xd1 [<f8fc3ad4>] pio_copy_data+0xb4/0xbe [kvm] [<f8fc531d>] kvm_vcpu_ioctl+0x0/0xa93 [kvm] [<f8fc5570>] kvm_vcpu_ioctl+0x253/0xa93 [kvm] [<c024d38d>] nf_hook_slow+0x4d/0xb5 [<f8dab91d>] br_handle_frame+0x154/0x17f [bridge] [<f8dab6fa>] br_handle_frame_finish+0x0/0xcf [bridge] [<c016944a>] core_sys_select+0x1ec/0x2c7 [<c0107461>] save_i387+0x122/0x134 [<c01020f5>] setup_sigcontext+0x105/0x189 [<c01028bb>] do_notify_resume+0x4f2/0x5e8 [<c01430d7>] handle_edge_irq+0xe2/0x105 [<c0106f15>] convert_fxsr_from_user+0x1c/0xdc [<f8fc531d>] kvm_vcpu_ioctl+0x0/0xa93 [kvm] [<c016834f>] do_ioctl+0x1f/0x62 [<c01685d6>] vfs_ioctl+0x244/0x256 [<c0168634>] sys_ioctl+0x4c/0x64 [<c0102cba>] sysenter_past_esp+0x5f/0x85 ======================= Code: a8 5d 58 5b 5e 5f 5d c3 53 89 c3 eb 0c 48 89 03 8b 44 83 04 e8 50 44 19 c7 8b 03 85 c0 75 ee 5b c3 55 57 56 53 89 c5 89 d6 89 cf <83> 7a 24 00 75 09 39 4a 2c 74 75 0f 0b eb fe 8b 52 2c eb 7d 8b EIP: [<f8fc648a>] mmu_page_remove_parent_pte+0xa/0xc1 [kvm] SS:ESP 0068:d9f41ba4 Baruch ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
