Dear Friends,

The worldwide nuclear village is intent on downplaying the health risks
from the disaster at Fukushima Daiichi. Two UN agencies- the World Health
Organization and the UN Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic
Radiation (UNSCEAR) have issued reports that there are no ill health
effects at all- no deaths, no increased cancers. Robert Stone, maker of a
new movie, Pandora's Promise, says the same, and claims that the neurotic
fear of radiation is the worst effect of the disaster. So does a recent
Forbes article.

The Big Lie is aimed at convincing the world public to tolerate more and
more nuclear disasters and nuclear waste production, by licensing and
operating more and more nuclear reactors. This is an obvious attempt to
counter the citizen's movement worldwide, that recently shut down San
Onofre for good, and has led the Germans to phase out their nukes, the
Japanese people to oppose reopening all their reactors, etc.

An independent investigation is urgently needed to bring the truth to
light. Please continue to circulate the petition

Title: CNN Films Announces Acquisition of 'Pandora's Promise' for Fall
2013 Broadcast
Source: CNN
Date: April 30th, 2013

CNN Films has acquired the domestic television rights for PANDORA'S
PROMISE [...] The film will premiere on CNN/U.S. in November 2013 [...]

The atomic bomb and accidents at Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, and
Fukushima bring to mind apocalyptic disasters, but the science and
experience since suggest that long-held fears about nuclear power may be
wrong. [...] PANDORA'S PROMISE examines how irrational fears of "nukes"
may have extended the era of fossil fuels [...]

No health risk from Fukushima radiation, UN says
May 31, 2013
Radiation leaked after Japan's Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011 is
unlikely to cause any ill health effects in the future, a UN scientific
committee drawing up a major new report said Friday.

"Radiation exposure following the nuclear accident at Fukushima-Daiichi...
did not cause any immediate health effects," the UN Scientific Committee
on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) said.

"It is unlikely to be able to attribute any health effects in the future
among the general public and the vast majority of workers for which dose
histories have been assessed."...

Like We've Been Saying -- Radiation Is Not A Big Deal

...UNSCEAR's chair Wolfgang Weiss stated that no radiation health effects
had been observed in Japan among the public, workers or children in the
area of the damaged nuclear power plants, in keeping with studies already
published by the World Health Organization and Tokyo University. Doses of
radiation received by people near the damaged power plant were so low that
no discernible health effect could be expected...

tens of thousands of Japanese (are) living in fear of radiation levels so
low that the fear itself is the only thing that is hurting them,..

Title: Experts: More data needed to assess radiation's role in cancer
among Fukushima kids
Source: THE ASAHI SHIMBUN

Health experts are at odds on whether radiation from the Fukushima
nuclear accident led to an unexpectedly high occurrence rate of thyroid
gland cancer among children in Fukushima Prefecture. [...]

Twelve of the 174,000 children who have undergone the comprehensive
checkups have been found with thyroid gland cancer, with an additional
16 suspected of having the disease.

A majority of radiologists, as well as the prefectural government, have
dismissed speculation that radiation from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear
power plant had any role in the numbers. But others said it is premature
to make any assessment based on the currently available data.

The figures mean about one in every 15,000 children [6.7 in every
100,000] in Fukushima Prefecture has thyroid gland cancer. The rate
soars to one in every 6,000 [16.7 in every 100,000] if the suspected
cases are included.

Those figures are higher than the thyroid gland cancer occurrence rate
of 1.7 in every 100,000 individuals between the ages 15 and 19 in Miyagi
and three other prefectures in 2007. [...]

Title: Japan's Fukushima debate: How will the meltdown affect the health
of residents?
Source: Christian Science Monitor
Author: Justin McCurry, Correspondent
Date: June 21, 2013

[...] In a recent draft report, the UN Scientific Committee on the
Effects on Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) said it expected to see no
noticeable rise in cancer rates, adding that the swift evacuation of
people living in a 20-kilometer (12-mile) radius of the plant had
sharply reduced radiation exposure.

[...] some scientists accuse the UN of using faulty methodology.

Alexey Yablokov, author of "Chernobyl: Consequences of the Catastrophe
for People and the Environment," says UNSCEAR's claim that there would
be no observable increase in cancer rates was "absolutely unacceptable."

The UN bodies' calculations, he says, had been made using flawed
estimates of average radiation doses among Fukushima residents. "The
average dose estimates don't reflect the real dose of radiation
[received by Fukushima residents]," he said during a recent visit to
Tokyo.

"How did they estimate the average? It's impossible, because on the
first day of the accident the level of radiation was thousands of times
higher," says Dr. Yablokov. "How do you calculate how many minutes
people spent inside and outside their houses at that time, or how much
air they breathed? It's absolutely ridiculous." [...]
