The Peoples Justice Conference is coming up this weekend, Saturday 
May 14 and Sunday May 15 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM both days at Los 
Angeles Trade Technical College, 400 W. Washington Blvd. and Grand 
Avenue, in the cafeteria and nearby classrooms. The action-oriented, 
working conference is designed to bring together people facing and 
dealing with issues of police terror and racial profiling, mass 
incarceration and the prison industrial complex, juvenile justice, 
political repression and imprisonment, and the death penalty.

Activities will begin both days with registration and a continental 
breakfast from 9:00 AM. There will be a welcoming assembly at 10:00 
AM. the first round of 90-minute workshops will begin at 10:30. On 
Saturday, we will commence with a workshop on Community Control Over 
the Police, another on social and economic re-integration of formerly 
incarcerated people led by All of Us or None, and a workshop on 
Proposition 21, gang injunctions and other attempts to criminalize 
youth led by Agustin Cebada, a Brown Beret. A free lunch will be 
served at noon, with a cultural presentation during the lunch break. 
The second round of workshops starts at 12:45, with a Self-Defense 
workshop led by the Black Riders Liberation Party and the Brown 
Riders, as well as a workshop led by the Youth Justice Coalition, on 
their "Welcome Back to LA" campaign for the reintegration of youth, 
and another addressing FBI and Grand Jury repression, with a panel 
including the LA Stop the FBI Coalition and Anti-Racist Action. 
Following the second round of workshops, there will plenary for 
report-backs, community speak-out on the prisons and police, and 
development of action plans and alliances. Saturday evening, there 
will be an informal get-together at the South Central Farmers 
Community Center at E. 41st St and Long Beach Blvd, as well as a 
possible anti-checkpoints mobilization.

On Sunday, the same schedule will be followed. The first round of 
workshops will be a Southern California Immigration Coalition session 
on ICE raids, police-ICE collaboration and immigration detentions, a 
Know Your Rights workshop led by a member of the LA Coalition for 
Justice for Oscar Grant, and a session led by the Los Angeles 
Community Action Network (LA CAN) on stopping the "Safer Streets 
Initiative" (criminalization of the poor and homeless and Skid Row 
police sweeps). The afternoon workshops will include a Jericho 
Amnesty Coalition "people's tribunal," putting the state on trial for 
crimes against humanity and human rights violations against the 
political prisoners, liberation movements and communities. There will 
also be workshops about the campaign against unjust vehicle impounds 
by the LAPD, and another by the Maggie Phair Institute on corruption 
and unjust practices of the probate courts. The conference will wrap 
up with another plenary session to identify action plans, alliance 
building and base-building efforts growing out of the workshops.
