Hi. I'm not registered as a Democrat but most on the this list are, and my own realpolitik understands that progressive Dems are critical in maintaining what democracy is left, in defeating the oppressors and in governing what comes afterward. So, I feel very good about asking a trusted Dem friend for these choices. I also know that almost all Greens and P&F folks on this list already know for whom they're voting, but if I felt pal Donna Warren was in trouble, I'd be working the phones. What the hell, let me include a few Dems I've worked and am friends with, and have great trust in. Debra Bowen, Karen Bass, Judy Chu (though I haven't seen her in years,) Gil Cedillo (same caveat) Mark Ridley Thomas, Elena Popp and Warren Furutani (same). Couldn't be without them. I detest Jerry Brown, but the alternative is probably worse. Ugh! Ed
*LACER is the acronym of the afterschool program I mentioned yesterday in my tribute to Joe Hacker. Lancer is a missile or something. Party Primary The following recommendations are a combination of ADA and Stonewall and me. Where ADA and Stonewall didn't agree, I decided. BTW, I was on the Stonewall interview panel for Secretary of State, and I cannot say enough good things about Debra Bowen. She's SO prepared for this office. Totally understands electronic voting software (took a course at MIT) and likes to say she's running for two reasons: Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004. How do we get there? What can we do? Journalists Dahr Jamail, Mark Manning, and Aaron Glantz along with activist Muna Coobtee present their views on Iraq. (see above bios for Dahr and Mark) Aaron Glantz entered Iraq during the early days of the war as the population's temperament was changing from from one of gratitude to Americans for ousting the dictator who had oppressed them to one of tension and resentment over broken promises, disrespect, continuing destruction and unprovoked violence toward Iraqi civilians. As an independent journalist, Glantz went beyond the safety of the heavily protected Green Zone to get at the truth of life in Iraq under the American occupation. In his book, "How American Lost Iraq," we are given the voices of Iraqis themselves. What they have to tell us, in Aaron Glantz's moving and courageous book, is a truth that all Americans need to hear.
