Dear Spiders,
I had to tell you of a comment I recieved over the weekend. I went to a
gathering and one of the ladies complimented me on my wire lace flower
brooch. When I said I had made it she said "It looked so perfect it can not
be handmade!" She, of course, began to elaborate and cover
Hi Everyone,
I have been finding this discussion of guild newsletters very interesting as a
former Newsletter editor. Before one decides what to do, you should also check
the privacy laws in your home country. Here in Canada one is no longer allowed

A thank you to all who replied on the list or in person about newsletters
on the web. You gave me several suggestions for our guild board to consider.
Thanks you all.

I have been working on a project that has a quantity of leaves. I seem to
be having more than normal problem with making a smooth leaf. I usually
can do better than the leaves I've been producing. It made me wonder if my
thread is not compatible with leaf formation.
I'm using black Egyptian
Hi Irene -
The hackle pliers you describe are very inexpensive, so if one breaks, it's
not a huge misfortune, and you can buy another! I have two "subtypes" of
that plier... one has a metal ring through the top of the "plunger" end,
which makes it very nice for holding it in place with a pin if
Hello lacemakers,
I bought myself a pair of hackle pliers and thought I had found the best
tool ever. I found them very useful when a bobbin runs out and needs a new
thread. There are probably other great uses but unfortunately mine broke
before I could find out. I purchased them in a fishing
Alice,
The way this is handled in some other organizations is that they often
open up activities to members first and then backfill with non-members.
For example, on lace days the sale room opens earlier for members
than non-members. Classes open only to members until a certain date
and then open
Dear friends,
Rather than putting a lock on the site, surely better to post really
tantalising portions, in the hopes that any newby floating by, would give it
a second glance, and possibly get them hooked enough to contact the group,
it is new friends that we are always after.

Alice asked...I wondered if anyone else had met up with this situation,
and...if sowhat you did about it, if anything. Do you put your
newsletters on your web page?...
Another way to get around this is to have a "lock" on the newsletter. Or
place it in a "members only" area. Both of wh
Hello Nicky
I've done a lot of research on the old lacemakers of the East Midlands and
have a large collection of photographs.
I've had a quick look through and found pictures of a Mrs Daniels of Shenley
taken c1905, a group with a Priscilla Daniels and one of Mrs Betsy Willett
(nee Daniels) who wa

I have some extremely poor (like almost unreadable) of a bobbin catalogue
that has a vast amount of continental bobbins pictured in it.
They are catalogued in the following way (just an example)
NL 3. Old Holland, then a picture ( drawing I think ) of the bobbin.
on that same page they 4 types (
Hi spiders
Shortly before Christmas I was given a large number of old bobbins, a few
are very similar to those shown in David Springetts book and I'm getting a
second opinion on them soon. In the main they had belonged to the ladies
aunt (born 1887) who lived most of her life in the Shenley area
