I add the beads on in the reverse order of working as I thread the bobbins. I
then simply slide the bead into place when I get to where it needs to
be. I usually put the beads on a gimp thread vs on a worker or a
passive pair but it could be done on one of those the same way I am
sure.

In my experience half stitch doesn't have "workers". I prefer to use a fine
crochet hook, pass the bead on to it, pull through one bobbin thread (
worker or passive, which ever is appropriate for the design) and transfer
the bead to the thread loop, then pass the second bobbin through the loop.
So
Half stitch has only a single worker, so you could put all the beads on that
thread. You may need to put on an extra twist at the pinhole to achieve
this - depends on how your footside works.
When working in half stitch, I have found it to be difficult to attach beads

I have been using those thin mattrasses for my pillows for a very
long time now. They last for a very long time. I layered them the
same way Bev intends to do. The nice thing is the material is rather
inexpensive and the pins are held in place nicely.
