I think things may have come on since then, as the lighting gel used in
theatres and television is acetate - and that withstands the heat from
1kw stage/set lights without problem - if it was anywhere near as
flammable as its predecessor it wouldn't be used!
The usual sheet used in framing is
The Lace Society are running a course with Jane Atkinson as the tutor at
Sudeley Castle next year.
Sudeley Castle is in the Cotswolds in the UK and is the most marvellous
venue. It was the home of Queen Katherine Parr and Sudeley is celebrating
her quincentenary in 2012.

Good Morning, Spiders!
I have just gotten a scam from the CBIC (a Canadian Bank) warning me
that some of their accounts had been hacked and that I should go to link
provided to give information... etc., etc.
Aside from the fact that I don't have a CBIC account, I'm reasonably
certain that
Hello Spiders,
Just a couple words on the subject of scams... It's CIBC (Canadian
Imperial Bank of Commerce) and no, no self-respecting organization
notifies their customers of account hacking that way ...
Beware also of people (typically some guys with a very heavy Indian
accent) phoning and
I don't think heat or flammability is the problem--it's the release of acetic
acid when the acetate film is exposed to humidity.
And yes, the sheet used
in framing is polycarbonate, but the original question was about acetate film,
which is a different material.
But I certainly agree about the
I would check out materials in a Scrapbooking shop. Your use of 'cardboard' in
the backing would be a bad choice, you want 'archival quality' materials.

Dear Arachnes,
I'm playing with the idea of making a beaded frame for a small lace

Brenda,
you are right this
Schappe silk 120/2x4 - 2S/4Z-20 w/cm
Tussah silk 20/2 - 2S-10 w/cm
are the silks Marianne Geissendörfer used for her patterns.
Both are very fine to handle.

What is it about lace making that keeps you interested and how has that changed
over the course of your learning?
For me I first decided to take up lace after discovering that this beautiful
fabric I admired could, and still is being made by hand.
The process appealed aswell as the symbolism
Lora,
I am convinced that because I am a Gemini I very quickly get bored with one
particular thing , but because lace has so many types to learn, I am still
smitten after over 20years of lacemaking and cannot ever see myself getting
tired of it.

Hello All! Did I miss Jane P's report (or another Arachnean's) on this
exhibit? After visiting the website, I'm curious to know if that was lace
hanging from the ceiling?!? Is this a Jane Atkinson-esque sort of
installation? And is there more info posted somewhere that I'm not looking?
Oh dear! Poor Sue, - well, what I would do - if the holes down the centre
for the ribbon/elastic match up, - then just catch the ends of the short
piece, to the longer piece, Add the bow just here - and turn it in to a
Deliberate Mistake (to prove it is hand made not shop bought!!! :) )
