Lorelei posted that she compares learning bobbin lace to woodcarving. I
compare learning bobbin lace to chess. In one chess lesson you can learn the
basic moves and play a simple game of chess, but it takes a lifetime to master
the game. I think bobbin lace is like that.

I live in the United States in the southwest so I don't have a problem with
rusting needles, pins, scissors, etc., but you might try silica gel desiccant
packets. Save them from products you buy (they are always inside shoes), buy
pre-made packets, or make your own. Buy some desiccant in one of t

I was speaking to a fellow lacemaker a few days ago and she said she and her
sister already know what classes they are taking. I sent in my registration
before Feb 1 and my check was cashed in February, but I have yet to hear about
the classes I will be taking. When can I expect to find out?

Hey, Robin! I'll lace bomb with you! Last night I was looking through the
Kaethe and Jules Kliot book "Bobbin Lace: Form by the Twisting of Cords" to
get inspiration for just this kind of thing. I was thinking how cool it
would be to have a long rod with heavy twine or rope attached to it (much
I was reading the book "Point and Pillow Lace" by Mary Sharp (printed in 1905)
and she mentions a painting by Quintin Matsys (1466-1529) of a girl with a
lace pillow as proof that bobbin lace existed in Belgium as early as the end
of the 15th c. I searched the internet and could not find this pict

I have just arranged for free space at a nearby historical park. In the
winter and inclement days we will make lace in the visitor's center and in the
summer we will make lace in the "pioneer village". Since I have demonstrated
at the park in the past, they were willing to let me have the space.

How to spangle with beading wire ("tiger tail") and crimp beads:
Hints:
DO NOT cut the beading wire off the spool until you are ready to thread it
through the bobbin.
If you have very small spangling holes in your bobbins, you will either need
to use the finest beading wire or need to enlarge your
My preferred spangling method is to use this beading wire with crimp beads. I
highly recommend it. The beading wire does not break and the spangles do not
distort.
