I looked online for Guterman buttonhole thread and I think the one I saw in
Sweden was 10 m to the spool and Tex 75.
I am not sure what Tex means though.

Tex = the weight in grams of 1,000 metres of thread. It’s a direct measurement
(like denier) so the bigger the number the thicker the thread. Tex is very
commonly used industrially and is becoming more recognised in the domestic
markets.

I am having a moment of duh, and I know you lovely people will set me straight.
I have a copy of Brenda's fabulous book of threads for lace
(seriously, most referenced book in my library.. I need to save up for
the new edition, just to not have to rifle through the generously
supplied addendum)
HelloHeather and everyone
It is there ;)
100/3, 27 wraps.

I am pretty confident that I have looked right past it, but Gutermann
silk, blue spool, S303 model number.. what the devil size is that
sucker? one place online said 30 wt, but that's the thinnest 17 wraps
per cm I've ever seen. 100 wt?
S303 means spun silk, Tex 30, 3 ply which is 27 w/cm
Thank you all!
I was pretty confident it was a serious duh moment, and I'm delighted
to find that the spool of silk I have here, is basically perfect for
the (very approx) 28 w/cm weight I was aiming for.
Huzzah! Thanks again all.

I was at NK department store in Stockholm last week and spotted some Guttermman
Buttonhole Silk thread. Kicked myself for not buying some spools as I have not
seen it in the US. Would it be good for gimp and is that listed in the book?
S303 means spun silk, Tex 30, 3 ply which is 27 w/cm

Most gimps need to be at least four times the thickness of the main thread. In
terms of w/cm either:
divide the w/cm of the main thread by 2.5
or
multiply the w/cm of the gimp by 2.5 to get the thickness of the main thread.
27 x 2.5 = 67.5
So a single strand of the S303 (Tex30) silk
