I think if the handling charge part of it was more than the pound stated, I would write to Royal Mail and demand a refund! The Royal Mail handling charge for a parcel from overseas where VAT and/or customs/ import duty needs to be collected is £8. Not negotiable. But if this is the only charge

We recently had two heavy parcels from the US for which we had to pay a hefty VAT charge plus the £8.00 handling charge. My husband rang the depot in York where the parcels were being held, and was told that: customs (the guy said that the place was crawling with customs people) are checking
