In German today "schneiden" means "cut". So, "schniden" and
"schnidtene" surely are old forms of today's "schneiden" (infinitive)
and "geschnitten" (past participle). Also the pictures seem to show
that it is cutwork.

Dear Lynn -- "Schnidtene...Schniden," it's just that there are some
four centuries or so separating us and our up-to-date standardized
language from dear Johann S. If you say his words aloud, it becomes
obvious that they have to do with cutwork.
