Hi Everyone,
Just to let you know that our Slagelse Lace Fair went very well again this
year with just over 1900 visitors in the 2 days! The stands did well with
their tempting goods and again, most of us spending much more than we had
intended. Amongst a few other things, I treated myself to the new German
Lace Guild book:" Klöppelspitze in Deutschland Ihre Weiterentwicklung von
1950-2000". I love their books - expensive but good quality and well
researched. Gry Hvidberg's metal lace with some really beautiful jewellery
and copper sculptures and her lace mounted in glass was quite fascinating.
Rosemary Urban gave us lots of inspiration with her meticulously executed
modern lace. Jitka von Lindern had a fascinating and exciting collection of
ultra modern textile designs incorporated into dresses, collars, wall
hangings. She has just come back from teaching 2 workshops in England. The
Tonder lace was beautiful from the Lorenzens Gaard collection, and I often
wonder when I look at it, and try to imagine just how it must have been to
have to make lace for a living instead of pleasure. But as one of the
lacemakers said, "You have to love what you are doing to create something so
exquisite". Lene Bjorn, from the Tatting Guild in Denmark had a very
attractive exhibition of lace and tatting and the tatted baby bonnets
displayed over wine glasses looked so nice. Jytte Bjork Olsen gave a very
interesting workshop and a lovely exhibition of her lace, and Jana Novak
decorated the most delightful Christmas tree with her new designs for this
year, with beautiful gilded mounts for angels, flowers and birds. The
exhibitors most certainly gave us a wonderful display with plenty of
inspiration for another year of lacemaking, and I think that I can fairly
say that we catered for all tastes this year. Even the DH's who were dragged
along seemed impressed. Great to see Vibeke, Bjarne, Arne and Aage!
Best wishes and keep bobbin' along
