While demonstrating last year at an annual 'festivel', I was making a piece of
Beds lace - A Christine springett pattern, and I was working in purple
thread.

I had just made myself a Biscornu Pin cushion , the Hardanger embroidery in a
purpleish variegated thread, which looked nice on the pillow!

A couple of ladies came by and raved over it - It being the pincushion, and
thought I was making another one!!!!!
How Hardanger looks anything like Beds lace I don't know!!!!

When I politely pointed out that that was my Pin cushion, and that I was
amking lace they were quite taken aback!!!!!
What they thought 40 prs of bobbins was for I don't know!!!!!!!!!! :))

But on the Other hand, one year, at the same venue, an elderly man came along
and said "Ah! Lace!! " It turned out he was sent out from Nottingham, England
in the 1950s to show a company how to use their new Lacemaking machine, and
had stayed here ever since!! It is always so nice when someone who
recognises lace and lacemaking, and appreciates it, comes to a
demonstration.
