Whilst living in California (1986-89), I bought a large cross stitch pattern
of a native Indian lady.
On return to UK, Mike made me a large floor-standing frame. I did about a
quarter of the pattern over a long period of time, as I did not have a lot
of time to work on anything with two young children. Eventually, it just
stood there, and me telling myself that one day I'd go back to it and finish
it.
About two years ago I told DH to dismantle the frame, and I'd store the
unfinished piece for a later date. Even though it had been covered with two
dark cloths, sun bleaching had created lighter lines horizontally. Thinking
it might just be settled dust, I shook it, gently soaked it in cold water,
but the lines remained, and in the bin it went.
This saga lasted from approx. 1986/7 till 2009. And I never finished it,
though I do have the good intention of restarting it at some point in time -
on a free Wed afternoon, as my mother used to tell us (Dutch schoolchildren
have Wed afternoons off).
